The Geological Survey of India (GSI) has been caring for and safeguarding the National Fossil Wood Park in Tiruvakkarai, Viluppuram District, since 1957. The park was created in 1940 and is situated 35 km from Puducherry on the road to Tindivanam, 1 kilometre east of Tiruvakkarai hamlet. At least 20 million years’ worth of intact fossilised trees can be found in the park. A glimpse of the historic floral composition can be seen at the location. There is also an Ancient Burial Site in the park. In nine distinct enclaves surrounding Tiruvakkarai, nearly 200 wood fossils are dispersed across 247 acres.

3. Arulmigu Mailam Murugan Temple
