The Arakkal Museum is a unique cultural institution dedicated to the only Muslim royal family in Kerala, the Arakkal family. The museum was established in 2005 and is located in Kannur, Kerala. It is situated in a portion of the Arakkal Palace, also known as Arakkalkettu. The Arakkal Museum is located in the Durbar Hall section of the Arakkal Palace—an embodiment of Kerala’s traditional architecture. A combination of wood and laterite stone has been applied in the construction of the palace; the sloping tiled roofs and intricately wooden-carved beams can be noticed from a distance.
The building projects an eclectic mix of Islamic and Kerala architectural styles through its arched doorways, latticed windows, and capacious verandahs.
