Thirunavaya Navamukunda Temple in Kerala is one of the oldest Vishnu temples built centuries ago. It attracts a lot of art lovers with its majestic monument, historic significance, and beautiful surroundings. The unique thing about Lord Vishnu’s idol in this temple is that it is knee-deep into the ground that you cannot see anywhere in the country. This temple has great importance for Hindus due to the presence of the 6000-year-old Nava Mukunda Temple. It is famous for its historic Mamankam festival, which is a grand celebration that occurs once in 12 years. It was attended by rulers from various parts of Kerala. The event also had a grand trade fair that went on for 28 days. It is also said that traders from outside India would come by ship to Ponnani and the head to attend the trade fair at Thirunavaya.

This temple is located on the pristine banks of Bharathapuzha, 8 km south of Tirur in the Malappuram district of Kerala. It is located at a distance of 30 km from Malappuram.
How To Reach

The temple is well connected by road and you can get buses and cabs directly from Thirur or other parts of the state, to this temple. You can take Highway Number 66 get off at Puthanathani, and then take a ride towards the river.

Chamaravatton Ayyappa Temple is a famous Sastha temple that is beautifully located along the Bharathapuzha River. Here, God is consecrated at the level of the river. During the rainy season, the water enters the temples and submerges the idol. Also, there is no dhoopam, Deepam, or use of bells during Puja at this temple. The main festivals celebrated here are Madalam and Prathishadinam.

4. Navamukunda Temple

Navamukunda Temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Lord Vishnu.There is no pond or well in the temple, and water from the river is used for all rituals. The river bank of Ponnani is considered as holy as Kashi, and the rituals of offering practices to forefathers are similar to the ones done there. As per the legends, goddess Lakshmi and Gajendra worshipped Lord Vishnyu with lotus flowers from the nearby lake.
