The Bhimtal Lake is the largest in Kumaon and it is the pride of Bhimtal. Topping the list of Bhimtal tourist places, you can have an enthralling view while on a boat trip on this fairly calm water body. Covering an area of 40 hectares, the lake has clear water and is named after one of the Pandava brothers, Bheema, and it is said that they visited the region in their exile period. As the lake is surrounded by lush greenery and boasts a serene view of mountains, it oozes tranquillity and peace.

2. Victoria Dam

Victoria Dam, situated at one end of Bhimtal Lake, combines natural beauty and colonial architecture. Built by the Britishers back in 1883, it is about 40 feet in height and helps in irrigation in nearby areas while keeping the check of the lake’s water regularly. Surrounding the dam, there is a terraced flower garden around the dam creating a mini paradise for visitors. You can enjoy panoramic views of the lake and surrounding landscapes while strolling through the gardens. There is an ancient Bhimeshwar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, which also adds a spiritual charm to the place.

3. Folk Culture Museum

The Folk Culture Museum or Lok Sanskriti Sangrahalaya is the best place to learn the history and culture of the region of Uttarakhand. It was established in 1983 and features traditional paintings, tools, artefacts, photographs, and wooden carvings on display. The museum was founded by a great historian and a learned archaeologist, Dr. Yashodhar Mathpal and he made sure that the museums helped visitors to understand the history and cultural significance of the Kumaoni region. 4. Hidimba Parvat

Located at a very short hike distance, Hidimba Parvat is a hill named after the demon named Hidima, who was married to one of the Pandavas, Bheema. The area is precisely famous amongst trekkers and you will pass through a dense forest while trekking to reach the peak. You can also take the opportunity to learn about the flora fauna and birds of the region. On the top of the peak is Vankhandi Ashram, which was built by an environmentalist and sage, Vankhandi Maharaj. The ashram has a small sanctuary made to protect the wildlife of the region.

6. Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple

Believed to be made by one of the Pandava brothers, Bheema, Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple is centuries old, as long as the history goes. The temple holds immense importance as it is believed that Bheema prayed to Lord Shiva to seek his blessings while in exile at this spot. As the temple is located next to Bhimtal Lake, you can pay a visit while you are exploring the lake. The presiding deity of the temple is a shivling and the architecture features traditional temple design with engravings on walls and stone.

Naina Peak, also called China Peak, is the famed mount amongst seasoned trekkers and stands at an elevation of 2,615 meters. To reach the peak, you will pass through the forest of oak, rhododendron, and cypress, giving you access to the peak nature’s beauty.
