Arugam Bay is a coastal gem located on the southeastern coast of Sri Lanka, in the Ampara District of the Eastern Province. It lies approximately 2.5 km south of Pottuvil town and around 320 km from Colombo. The bay faces the Indian Ocean, making it a prime spot for surfing. By Air: The nearest airport is Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (HRI), located approximately 211 km from Arugam Bay. Batticaloa Airport is closer at 116 km but it is a domestic airport and mainly offers local flights.
By Rail: The nearest railway station to Arugam Bay is Demodara Railway Station and Batticaloa Railway Station. Demodara Railway Station is 139 kilometres from Arugam Bay and Batticaloa Station is 113 kilometres from the bay. After getting down, visitors can hire a cab or use public transport to reach the destination.
By Road: Visitors travelling Arugam Bay via road from the neighbouring cities from Colombo shall take a bus to Akkaraipattu and then hire a taxi to Pottuvil. It takes about 9 hours to reach Arugam Bay from Colombo.
