One of the most popular monasteries in Sikkim, the Rinchenpong Monastery is known for its unique structure and picturesque surroundings. Established in the early 18th century, it is located above the twin villages of Rinchenpong and Kaluk in West Sikkim at a height of 1,700 metres. The monastery has a statue one doesn’t find in most other monasteries: the statue of Buddha in the Yab-Yum position, is considered sacred and divine as it showcases the union of the male and female. The third oldest monastery in Sikkim, Rinchenpong Monastery’s address takes visitors to the Rinchenpong village in West Sikkim. This monastery is a 4-hour drive from Gangtok. Once you reach the Rinchenpong market, there is a meandering path that goes up to the gompa, following which you can reach the monastery after about 1.2 km. Several tourists visit Rinchenpong during the journey from Pelling, about 46 km away.

The multiple ways to reach Rinchenpong Monastery, Sikkim are:
By Air: The nearest international airport is at Bagdogra (129 km). You can also fly to Pakyong Airport (105 km), but flights are infrequent and often cancelled. So, it’s better to book tickets to Bagdogra instead. You can take a shared jeep or hire a taxi from where the journey takes about 4-5 hours.
By Train: The nearest railway station is at New Jalpaiguri, located about 152 km from Pelling, from where it is a 5-hour taxi ride.
By Road: The monastery is located at an altitude of 5500 feet, and the nearest town is Kaluk, which is 3 km away. You can reach Kaluk via Jorethang and then proceed to Rinchenpong.

Founded in 1705 by Lama Lhatsun Chempo, the monastery belongs to the Nyingma sect of Tibetan Buddhism. 2. Rabdentse Ruins

Rabdentse Ruins are the remnants of the second capital of the former Kingdom of Sikkim. Established in 1670 by the second Chogyal (king) of Sikkim, Tensung Namgyal, Rabdentse served as the capital until 1814. The ruins are located near Pelling, West Sikkim, and offer a fascinating glimpse into the region’s rich history and cultural heritage. They are now a part of the Buddhist religious pilgrimage circuit. The site is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and has been preserved as an important historical and archaeological site.
