Kolleru Lake is a freshwater lake that forms one of the largest wetlands in India. Situated between Krishna and Godavari River deltas, it serves as an essential habitat for a wide array of bird species. The sanctuary was established in 1999. Kolleru Wildlife Sanctuary is more specifically located in the Eluru district in Andhra Pradesh and is home to a variety of flora and fauna as well. The most important flora or plant species is Phragmites karka, which is a kind of weed that the birds use as their shelter and for shade against the harsh heat.

By Air: If you are taking a flight from any of the nearby cities, Vijayawada Airport is the nearest to this wildlife sanctuary. Once you reach the airport, you can then hire local taxis to take you to the sanctuary. It will take around 2-3 hours.
