The Ripple Waterfalls is a natural waterfall formed by River Muthirapuzha, located amidst the beautiful Idukki district of Kerala. Due to its location in the dense forests of Kerala, it is maintained by the Forest Department and District Tourism Promotion Council Idukki. The place is quite popular among nature enthusiasts, trekkers, and photographers. The waterfall derives its name from the rippling sound created by the water as it flows down the rocks.

About Ripple Waterfalls

Considered to be one of the most beautiful waterfalls of the Idukki District, the Ripple Waterfalls Munnar is an idyllic place to visit and spend time with your family and loved ones. Formed by the perennial Muthirappuzhayar River, the waterfall has two stages. One has been opened for the general public as a waterfall park where one can take a bath. Just 1 km away from this park is the main waterfall that can be admired from a distance as the place is quite slippery due to the water.

How To Reach Ripple Waterfalls

Munnar has no train station or airport. However, the place is well connected through the Cochin International Airport which is located 110 km away. In addition to Aluva Railway station located 120 km away from Munnar, one can also travel to Kochi or Ernakulam Railway station from where one can board a bus or take a taxi to Munnar.

1. Mattupetty Dam

Built within 5 years, Mattupetty Dam is more like a sightseeing attraction rather than just a reservoir. The dam has different sections that can work independently if needed and have a water-holding capacity of around 55.4 million cubic metres. Formed as a result of this dam is the perennial lake called Mattupetty Lake which never dries up even during summer. One can also enjoy different leisure activities on the lake such as boating, speedboat riding and others.

2. Parunthumpura Hill View Point

Popularly known as “The Eagle Rock”, Parunthumpura Viewpoint is a hilltop located near Peermade in the Idukki district of Kerala. The place offers a panoramic 360-degree view of the surrounding plains and the Peerumedu hills. On a clear day, one can also get a glimpse of the Periyar Tiger Reserve and the Sabarimala forests in which one can witness the sacred Makarajyothi which makes it a popular pilgrimage place too. However, it is the beauty of the unexplored pristine forests and tea gardens that makes it a popular attraction in Munnar.

3. Thekkady Boat Landing

Perfect for eco-tourists as well as wildlife enthusiasts, boating in Thekkady Lake offers a calming view of the lush green forests of the Periyar Tiger and wildlife reserve. This boat tour allows you to observe native wildlife in their regular habitat. There are herds of elephants, wild boars, majestic gaurs, sambar deer and a vibrant population of birds like egrets, otters and kingfishers.

4. Cheeyappara Waterfalls

This magnificent seven-step waterfall cascades down the rocky slopes near Adimali town on the Kochi highway in Idukki. Descending from the river Deriyar, there is a small pool near the base of the waterfall for tourists to take a dip in. One can also enjoy forest walks or trekking near the fall for a sneak peek of the exotic plant and animal species living in the surrounding region.
