4. Reis Magos Fort

This fort is located in the Nerul region of Goa. It is located on the top of a hill by the banks of the River Mandovi. The name of the fort as well as the village that it is located in, Reis Magos, gets its name from the Portuguese word for the ‘Three Wise Men’ from the Bible. The fort lies right opposite to the city of Panaji and has laterite walls Portuguese turrets. The reason behind building this fort was the protection of the narrowest stretch of land occupying the estuary of Mandovi. It was replaced by a larger structure during the beginning of the 18th century.
