The Surinsar Mansar Wildlife Sanctuary gets its name from the two lakes at the sanctuary’s corners. Spread over 98 sq km, this sanctuary is around 58 km from Jammu City. At this sanctuary, you can spot eight species of mammals, such as Goral, wild boar, barking deer, leopards, etc. You can also view the mixed scrub forests and avifauna prevalent in the sanctuary like the black partridge. red jungle fowl, peafowl, and more. Getting here is very easy since this wildlife sanctuary is just 56 km from Jammu. The Jammu airport and railway station are 58 km from here. Many taxis will directly drop you at the wildlife sanctuary from the airport or the railway station. Endless buses are also easily available from the main city of Jammu to this wildlife sanctuary.

1. Mansar Lake Trail

Mansar Lake is a famous tourist spot and one of the major pilgrimage sites. Mansar is a perfect place to escape from life, stay in touch with nature, and find yourself again. You can also take a boat ride within the lake and watch different fish species. There is also a cemented path with projected view decks around it to view different seasonal birds, tortoises, and fish of different species. Experience the 5km point-to-point trail passing through Majalta here. The trail is available to the public all year and is equally gorgeous at any time.

2. Nathatop, Patnitop Trek

Nathatop is about 2 km from Patnitop. During winter, the hill station is laden with snow, which adds to the beauty of the place. Nathatop is famous for paragliding and skiing which are gaining popularity with each year. The hill station contains several food sellers, mainly local food sold by the roadside. These hills give an excellent and clear view of the magnificent Himalayas with an altitude of approximately 2711m above sea level. If you travel to the Pir Panjal Mountains during winter, all you can see is snow throughout the mountains, and it looks great!

1. Mahamaya Temple

Mahamaya Temple is located on the banks of the River Tawi, near the outskirts of Jammu City. Unlike typical Hindu temples, this one is dedicated to Mahamaya, a freedom fighter from the Dogra community, who sacrificed her life approximately 14 centuries ago to liberate her region from foreign intruders. The white-roofed temple, set amidst tall green trees, offers a picturesque view of the yellowish-shiny blue sky and the Trikuta mountain ranges in the backdrop. From this location, you can see most parts of Jammu city, including the imposing Bahu Fort and the winding Tawi River.

2. Bahu Fort Jammu

Located 5 km from the city centre, Bahu Fort stands on a rock overlooking the left bank of the River Tawi. Originally built by Raja Bahulochan over 3000 years ago, it is one of the oldest forts and buildings in the city. The fort was further strengthened by the Dogra dynasty in later periods. Inside, there is a temple dedicated to the Hindu goddess Kali, known as Bave Wali Mata Mandir. Bahu Fort showcases the opulence of the Dogra kings and the royal family that once governed the area. The temple attracts many pilgrims, especially on Tuesdays and Sundays, which are considered auspicious.
