The Hivre Waterfall is located very close to Valpoi City, at a distance of 14 km from it in North Goa. It is situated in the Ivre Khourd region of the Sattari taluka in Goa. The place is a popular trekking spot and is well connected to other parts of Goa.

How To Reach

By Car: The capital city of Goa, Panaji is located at a distance of 56.2 km from the Hivre Waterfall. You will have to cover a one and a half hour journey from Panaji via NH748AA to reach the Hivre Waterfall.
By Bus: A lot of local buses leave from Panaji KTC Bus Stand for the Hivre Waterfall. You can take any of these buses. The Valpoi KTC Bus stand is the nearest to Hivre Khourd, from where you will have to cover 13km.
By Train: The Thivim Railway Station is the closest to Valpoi. You can take a 45 minute bus ride from here to Valpoi and then proceed to the Hivre Waterfall.
By Air: The Dabolim Airport in Goa is at a distance of 69 km from the Hivre Waterfall. It will take around an hour and a half to reach Hivre Waterfall from there.

1. Monvancho Goonno

This place, also known as ‘Honey Stone,’ is located in the quaint Sonal Village of Goa. Monvancho Goonno is the name given to the rock which bore a number of honeycombs in the past. At this place, there are many large rocks along a riverbank. This place lies close to the Madhei River and is known for being the place where freedom fighter Dipaji Rane had settled in the past. Also, Monvancho Goonno has been a popular site for the shooting of many Bollywood movies.

2. Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary

This wildlife presents the beauty of the flora and fauna in Western Ghats amidst a protected, verdant landscape. It is a part of the Project Tiger and is rich in biodiversity. Some of the most spotted animals include the sloth bear, Indian Black Panther, sambar deer, leopard, jungle car, flying squirrel and Gaur, which is the state animal of Goa. You can also see a number of different snakes like spectacled cobra, Russell’s Viper and the yellow-spotted wolf snake.

3. Sanvordem Waterfalls

This waterfall is located in Valpoi, which is very close to the Hivre Waterfall. The journey to this waterfall involves one of the most exhaustive treks of Goa. But the beauty that the waterfall exudes totally makes it worth the while. The Sanvordem Waterfall is located in a relatively remote and isolated place. Since human habitation lies far from it, it is mostly free from pollution. As the cascade of water comes down, its speed is slowed by the rocks.

4. Nanuz Fort

This Fort is located in Valpoi, in the Sattari taluka of Goa. It is believed that it was erected under the instructions of the great Maratha ruler, Chhatrapati Shivaji. Freedom fighter Dipaji Rane had used it as a base for his army while rebelling against the Portuguese. If you visit this place, you will only find the ruins of the fort but it unfolds the secrets of the historical revolts in Goa before your eyes. The fort also has a beautiful lake, by which you can take a stroll or just sit back and relax. The fort presents an Indo-Portuguese citadel and is one of the architectural marvels of Goa.

5. Shri Brahmadev Ji Temple

This temple is greatly revered by the Hindu community of Goa. This temple bears the shrine of Lord Brahma, who is an important figure in the Hindu Trinity of Gods. The deity’s idol presents a chiselled image in black stone which owes its origin to the Kadamba dynasty from the 12th century. It is believed that the idol was secretly transported from the Karnali village to Valpoi when there was a threat of Portuguese invasion and subsequent plunder. This temple is vibrantly painted on the outside and radiates serenity and spirituality. It is located at a distance of 7km from the town of Valpoi.

The best time to visit the Hivrem waterfalls is between the months of June and December. During this time of the year, the weather is predictable and quite pleasant. The temperature is around 25°C to 29°C. The monsoon season replenishes the waterfalls in Goa and it is the best time to go trekking in such weather to these waterfalls.
