Virasat-e-Khalsa is more commonly known as the Khalsa Heritage Complex and is often referred to as a “living monument,” which is dedicated to the journey of Sikhism through the centuries. Inside the museum, you get a rundown of the life and teachings of Sikh Gurus, the history of the Khalsa, and the relevance of Sikhism in contemporary times. Also, there are two main complexes inside the museum – the smaller West Complex and the larger East Complex. You get to walk through 500 years of Sikh history, which is the main takeaway point inside the museum.

By Air:Your nearest airport to the museum is the Chandigarh Airport, which is around 88 km away. For a comfortable time reaching the museum from the airport, you should take a taxi from the airport to reach Anandpur Sahib and then to the museum.
By Rail: Nangal Dam railway station is the nearest railhead from the museum, located around 25 km from the museum. There are local buses and taxis available outside the railway station, making it a lot more convenient for you to reach there.
By Road: Anandpur Sahib is well-connected to nearby cities via a network of national and state highways. If you are already in the town, you can take an auto-rickshaw or public bus to reach the museum. For a comfortable journey, taxis are readily available too.

1. Start With Witnessing Panj Pani

Panj Pani also translates to the Boat Building and inside it, the main attraction is the hand-painted mural, done by Orijit Sen. In the mural, you get a well-rounded view of the past and the present of Punjab and the attention to detail in each is what makes it stand out. There are villages, towns and cities depicted in the mural. The moment you enter the gallery, it is predominantly pitch dark, which is further illuminated with a faint blue light.
2. Learn About The 15th Century Punjab

Another important gallery to explore inside the museum is the 15th-century Punjab. In this gallery, you get a glimpse into the impacts of the Lodi reign and the casteism that was quite predominant during that time. There is an audio guide section inside the galleries, which enables you to have a more interactive way of learning about Punjab and the journey of Sikhism through the centuries. Also, the display of “Ik Onkar” in the crystal-lights installation is quite a treat to witness.
3. Learn About The Sacrifice Of The Gurus And Khalsa

One of the most significant galleries inside the museum is that of Guru Arjan Dev’s martyrdom. The gallery is on the terrace and is referred to as “Tatti Tava”. Beyond that, you also get a glimpse into the lifespan of Guru Hargobind, Guru Har Rai, Guru Harkrishan, Guru Teg Bahadur, Guru Gobind Singh and Gurta Gaddi. There are two other galleries dedicated to Guru Tegh Bahadur’s Supreme Sacrifice and Guru Gobind Singh, which you have to stop and explore too.
4. Immerse In The Gallery Dedicated To Sikh Misls

Up next on the list is another important gallery, which is dedicated to Sikh Misls. There are 12 Misls and each one of them is described and displayed elaborately for you to learn more about. You get to learn how these Misls became true caretakers of Punjab. The Misls are alternatively known as Dal Khalsas, further adding to its significance. There are automated mannequins inside the gallery of the Sikh warriors, adding to the significance further.
