Doraha Fort holds immense historical and architectural value. Built in the 17th century by Nur Jahan, Emperor Jahangir’s wife, during the Mughal era, it served as a halting place for travellers and royal convoys moving along the famous Grand Trunk Road, which connected present-day Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan. Since the fort was located quite centrally and strategically, it provided a great halting destination for traders and pilgrims, especially during the Mughal period.
The architectural style of the fort is a classic blend of Mughal and Persian influences. By Air: The nearest airport to the fort is the Sahnewal Airport, however, it has very limited flight connectivity. So, it is better to fly to Chandigarh International Airport and then take a taxi from there to reach the fort.
By Road: You can drive to Doraha via the Ludhiana-Chandigarh Highway (NH 44), which is part of the Grand Trunk Road.
