Its previous name was Brnik Airport and it is the only international airport serving the largest city of Ljubljana. This airport started operating in December 1963. The previous airport, popularly known as the Polje Airport was replaced by this new airport. The airport of Polje served as the city’s first civil airport. The new airport at Brnik started its regular flights in January 1964. The symbol of Ljubljana is the dragon that represents power, courage and greatness.

This is a popular airport in Maribor, Slovenia. It is considered the second biggest and second most important Slovenian airport after the Ljubljana airport. Being incorporated with the ILS, this airport is most suitable for international commercial aviation. The airport of Skokie at this location has been used for sports purposes since 1953. 3. Portorož Airport

This airport is the smallest of all the three international airports in Slovenia. The beautiful airport can be found near the village of Secovlje, which is 6 km south of Portoroz and less than 300 metres from the Croatian border. The airport was inaugurated on 27 December 1962 and also serves several other tourist destinations like Trieste in Italy and Umag in Croatia, including Piran, Izola, and Koper in Slovenia. The airport’s main purpose is passenger and cargo transport for sport, tourist, and business flights.

4. Ajdovščina Airfield

This airport is located in the Vipava Valley in Slovenia and serves as a local airfield and tourist aerodrome. It was initially built for the battles of Isonzo and is a shelter for the Josip Križaj Ajdovščina Aeroclub. The flying club has been named after the Slovene war ace Josip Krizaj. This airport is at an elevation of 117 meters above sea level and serves the region of Ajdovščina. The place of Ajdovščina is the centre of administration in the municipality.

5. Lesce-Bled Airport

Public Commercial Institution ALC Lesce-Bled is the operator of the airport, which was created by the nearby municipality of Radovljica. 7. Divača Airport

This airport was built for the famous Battles of the Soca and is still in use. The airport is the oldest active airport in Slovenia with an interesting history. It was built in the years 1916 and 1917 and utilised as a bomber base during World War I. After the war, the airport was owned by the Italian authorities and used by them until 1942. The airport consists of two 800-meter-long runways with one paved and the other covered with grass.

It is situated at a height of 500 meters above sea level and is operated by the AvioFun Klubb Koroska. The Aerodrome Slovenj Gradec began in 2002, with its main areas of work being aeroplane sales, hotel management, aviation training, and maintenance. The beginning of sports aviation in the Mislinja Valley dates back to 1937, which led to the establishment of this airport.

10. Šoštanj Airport

It is a small airport operated by the Saleski Aeroklub that serves Sostanj Velenje. Located in the settlement of Topolsica, Slovenia, it lies 2.2 kilometres north of Sostanj and 6.2 kilometres northwest of Velenje. The first powered Italian aircraft was launched in 1927. The second aircraft flew to Sostanj and landed under the Marvoska Manor which is near to the current airport. It is at an elevation of 378 meters above sea level and equipped with a fuel pump, light maintenance services, and a guest house.
