2. Hukuri Miskiiiy Mosque

This mosque is one of the most revered mosques in Maldives and is visited by Muslims from around the world. The name of the mosque translates to the ‘Old Friday’ Mosque. Boulders sourced from corals have been used in the construction of the infrastructure and it was even declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2008. 3. National Museum

This museum hosts artefacts tracing the history of the Maldives. The museum was inaugurated on the National Day of Maldives by the country’s leader, Mohamed Amin Didi. Lacquered art pieces are peppered throughout the vast array of artworks. The Museum also features the image of the Maldivian goddess, Tara on a coral base. Different religious elements, from Buddhism and Islam, are incorporated within the art pieces. The museum also houses a coral idol of the Buddha, dating back to the 13th century.

4. Republic Square

The Republic Square is also called the Jumhooree Maidan and houses the largest Maldivian flag in the country. Because it is close to a ferry terminal, tourists can observe the beauty of the ocean waters from this place. You can visit this place at any time of the day without any entry fee. This place is also politically of great significance because of its strategic position between the army and the police headquarters.
