1. Mahalaxmi Temple

To start, you can visit the Shri Mahalaxmi Mandir, which is in Sarasbaug. It is one of the most famous devi temples in Pune and is dedicated to Goddess Mahalaxmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. The architecture of the temple features a blend of traditional Maratha-style architecture with modern elements. The idol of the Goddess inside the inner sanctum is adorned with intricate jewellery and colourful garments, which add to the serenity of the visit. Even the temple premises are surrounded by lush greenery, enabling you to soak in some much-needed fresh air. Every year, special pujas are conducted during Diwali.

2. Shri Chaturshrungi Devi Temple

More commonly known as the Chattushrungi Temple, this is another Devi temple in Pune that you can visit. The temple is located on top of a hill adjacent to Senapati Bapat Road. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Chaturshringi, a form of Goddess Durga. Coming to the temple’s location is an impressive 90 feet high and 125 feet wide, and reaching the main shrine requires climbing 100 steps. So, you do have to challenge yourself physically to offer your prayers to the Goddess. The temple complex also houses smaller shrines dedicated to other deities such as Goddess Yamai and Goddess Renuka. One of the best times to visit the temple is during Navratri.

3. Tambdi Jogeshwari Temple

Elaborately known as the Graamdevta Shree Tambdi Jogeshwari Mandir, this is another one of the popular devi temples in Pune, located in Budhwar Peth. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Jogeshwari, a powerful form of the Goddess Durga. Historical evidence suggests that the temple is 350 years old and has close associations with the Ganesh festival too. It is believed that the first Ganesh idol for the festival was established near the temple by Lokmanya Tilak. Inside the inner sanctum, the idol of the Goddess is intricately carved and has jewellery and bright and traditional attire, adding to the beauty.

4. Shree Bhavani Mata Temple

Another one of the best Pune devi temples that you can’t miss out on exploring is the Shree Bhavani Mata Temple. It is a sacred site dedicated to Goddess Bhavani, an incarnation of Goddess Durga. The temple holds special importance as it is believed that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, is the great Maratha king. The temple has a pretty simple architecture with the main shrine occupying the majority of the temple complex. The temple is particularly busy during Navratri, when special rituals are conducted, and the temple is beautifully decorated with flowers and lights.

5. Shree Mahalaxmi Mandir

The Shree Mahalaxmi Mandir in Karvenagar is another one of the must-visit devi temples in Pune. The temple is known for its grand idol of the goddess, who is adorned with gold jewellery and colourful flowers, which is a treat to the eyes. The temple complex is quite small but it is believed that a visit to this temple is quite an empowering experience. 6. Ashtabhuja Durga Mandir

In Pulachi Wadi, Ashtabhuja Durga Mandir is another one of the oldest devi temples in Pune. As the name suggests, the idol of the Goddess in this temple has eight limbs, each carrying a significant element. The temple is located in Pune’s Shaniwar Peth, which was established by Moropant Tryambak Pinglay, Peshwa of the Maratha Empire. There aren’t a lot of details about the actual history of the temple but it is believed that the temple is at least a few hundred years old. The architecture of the temple is quite simple and reminiscent of the old-day Maratha architecture.

7. Tukai Devi Mandir

Another one of the best devi temples in Pune is the Tukai Devi Mandir. This pristine white temple is located on top of Baner Hill, which is around 2224 metres above sea level. The temple’s origins depict that it was built 400 years ago. However, over time, the temple has undergone renovation and rebuilding. It is said that the temple was built in the 17th century by the Kalamkar family of the Mali caste after they inherited Baner. From the temple, you get to witness panoramic views of the city, which is truly stunning.

8. Shitala Devi Temple

In the Nana Peth area in Pune, the Shitala Devi Temple is a popular devi temple that you have to add to your travel plans. According to the historical data, the temple dates back to the 9th century and it is dedicated to Maa Shitala. It is believed that worshipping the Goddess rids people’s ailments like poxes, sores, pustules, and skin-related diseases. One of the best times to visit the temple is during Shitala Ashthami. Inside the sanctum, the goddess’ idol has eight arms wherein she is holding a trident, broom, chakra discus, pot full of water, branches of neem, scimitar and conch.

9. Shri Taljai Mata Devasthan

In the vicinity of the Parvati Hills lies another devi temple in Pune called the Shri Taljai Mata Devasthan. The history of this temple dates back 400 years in the past. There are a lot of details and folklore surrounding the temple, some even depicting that Rao Bahadur Thube used to live around. He was a devotee of the Goddess and hence led to the construction of the temple. The temple is dedicated to Taljai Mata, who is a form of Goddess Durga. You can offer your prayers to the Goddess and even find some peace in the surroundings. The views that you get from the temple complex are quite breathtaking as well.

10. Vanadevi Mandir

Vanadevi Mandir, in Karve Nagar, is the last on this list to visit. It is believed to be one of the oldest temples in Pune, which is usually quite crowded. The temple itself is quite small and has a simple architecture, which is reminiscent of the modern temples. Also, there are smaller shrines inside the temple dedicated to a few other Hindu deities, whom you can worship during your visit as well. Since it is a Devi temple, one of the best times to visit the temple is during Navratri. The temple has a grand celebration during that period, adding to the excitement of the visit.
