Hemis Monastery or Hemis Gompa is amongst the largest and most famous monasteries of Ladakh, positioned amongst the beautiful Himalayan valleys. Hemis Monastery, Ladakh is about 45 Km from Leh at an altitude of 3658 meters above sea level. By Road: The most probable means of access to Hemis is by road transport. Public transport, including ordinary buses and shared taxis, is available from Leh to Hemis and it takes approximately an hour and half.
By Rail: Nearest railway station is at Jammu, which is around 700 kilometres from the location. Leh can be accessed by hiring a taxi or by taking a bus from the city of Jammu.
By Air: The closest airport is Kushok Bakula Rimpochee airport in Leh and there are many flights from important cities of India including Delhi, Srinagar and so on. Once you are in Leh, you can hire a taxi or board a bus to get you to Hemis.
