1. Tyrshi Falls

This waterfall is layered and presents a pristine view of free flowing, crystal clear water, travelling with a mighty force. If you visit the Tyrshi Falls, you will also come across verdant pastures and brooks, perfect for strolls and pictures. It is also a picnic spot popular among tourists and locals. The Nartiang Monoliths are very close to the Tyrshi Falls. These Monoliths are remnants of Meghalaya’s cultural heritage from a glorious, ancient past.

2. Krang Suri Falls

What sets this waterfall apart, is the way it embraces the entrance of a cave like a curtain. It has often been compared to scenes from the Jungle Book, since it lies in the middle of wilderness, amidst a verdant forest. You can even see the rocks lying on the bed of the blue pool of water because of its purity. There are facilities for boating available nearby and railings have been constructed around the waterfall to make sure that tourists are not under a risk.

3. Bophill Falls

This waterfall is located between Dawki and Mawlynnong and is located right on the road which falls on the route between the two places. There is a bridge by the waterfall from where you can catch a glimpse of the Bangladesh border and the Umngot River. The panoramic view is also laced with rice plantations, making the overall view a lovely gift from nature. The volume of water that flows is very large compared to most other waterfalls in the state.

4. Leshka Falls

This waterfall is known for being exceptionally beautiful during the season of monsoon. The waterfall is situated right in the middle of a quaint village that warmly welcomes visitors to the waterfall. The waters belong to the Myntdu River and the Leshka Dam is important for the generation of hydropower. It is also a popular picnic spot in the West Jaintia Hills district and is known for the view of overlapping paths of the rivers and hills in a criss-cross arrangement.

5. Phe Phe Falls

The word Phe Phe literally translates to ‘paradise’ and that is exactly what this waterfall stands for. This waterfall has two tiers and is a widely visited one in Meghalaya. Like a few other waterfalls, the Phe Phe Falls are also located very close to the town of Jowai. The area surrounding the Phe Phe Falls is also known for being home to the carnivorous Pitcher Plant, and you can catch a glimpse of these small plants throughout your journey.

6. Rynji Falls

Located in the East Jaintia Hills district, this waterfall grabs a lot of attention from tourists visiting Meghalaya. There are natural pools of water that you can cross on your feet and the rock formations peppered around the area of the waterfall are worth taking a look at. The adjoining forest area has special pathways for tourists to travel and the waterfall welcomes visitors throughout the year, no matter what the season.

7. Umbyrleiñ Falls

This waterfall is located close to the town of Jowai. It is a less visited yet extremely beautiful spot to spend some time alone in nature, or take a stroll during contemplations. Since it is close to the town of Jowai, you can visit the Jowai Presbyterian Church and the Sacred Grove from here. The Church dates back to 150 years ago. It is one of the oldest churches in Eastern India and the remnants of a colonial period are visible through its architectural form.

8. Sah Ksaw Falls

This waterfall is also located near Jowai and is perfect for strolls at sunrise or sunset. The Sah Ksaw Fish Sanctuary can be visited by paying a nominal entry fee and the Thwai Marang beach is also close by. Though beaches are seldom found in mountainous terrain, the Thwai Marang beach stands out as an exception. There are also decorated photo booths on the beach for visitors to take pictures. Rafting and trekking are also popular among visitors who come to the Sah Ksaw Falls.

9. Thlu Amwi Falls

This waterfall presents a beautiful sight and also has an interesting stone bridge close to its waters. The Thlu Amwi waterfall is very close to the village of Sohbar and is not very far from the capital city of Shillong. There are also interesting rock formations in the vicinity of these falls and their unique shapes will render anyone awestruck. The stone bridge is a remnant of Meghalaya’s past and along with the waterfall, the site becomes a must visit for every tourist.

10. Sua Ludong Falls

This waterfall is open to tourists between 8 AM and 6 PM everyday. It features a cascade of water in full force, travelling down to a deep pool from a rugged and rocky cliff. The Sua Ludong Falls are located in the Thangbuli village of the Amlarem sub district in Meghalaya. If you stand by the Sua Ludong Falls, you will be able to view the beautiful landscape of Pynthorwah Valley. It is believed that the native deity, “U Ryngkew U” Basa protects this area around Jowai.
