The fort is believed to have been constructed by the royal family of Kangra, the Katoch dynasty and reportedly dates back to the period of Mahabharata. Some legends even depict that the fort reportedly dates back 4000 years in history. The fort has been through centuries of battles, wars, and invasions through renowned names and rules in India’s history including Mahmud of Ghazni, Muhammad bin Tughlaq, and the British, each leaving their mark on its architecture and history.
