The most fiercely believed origin story starts with two people from the Namboothri caste who were reportedly meditating in the presence of a Bhadrakali idol at the Mookambika temple. After meditating for a while, they received a message from Goddess Bhadrakali where she confirmed her perpetual presence in the same position. With the blessings from Goddess Bhadrakali, the Namboothiris continued on their pilgrimage, keeping the idol in their presence. However, as they grew older, it became too difficult for them to continue with the idol. During that time, the Namboothiris finally reached Malayalapuzha in Kerala where they erected the temple.
