The island is at the centre of the Kurumchinskay culture of the 6th–10th centuries. Olkhon is the largest island in Lake Baikal and the third-largest lake island in the world. By Ferry: From Sakhyurta, take a 15-20 minute ferry ride to the island. Ferries operate from May to October.
