These caves owe their origin to the 2nd century BCE. There are beautiful and intricate carvings inside the caves. The caves are named after the two hills adjacent to them, called Udayagiri and Khandagiri. The caves are recognised by the Archaeological Survey of India and have been given the title of Adarsh Samrak. While Udayagiri has 18 caves, Khandagiri houses 15. The Ganesha Gumpha is known for its significant scriptures. This place is a perfect spot for having a picnic amidst historical tales.

2. Duduma Waterfalls

This waterfall is an exquisite natural wonder amidst the Eastern Ghats. The source of the waterfall is the Machkund River and it is located at an altitude of 175 m. The waterfall is located very close to the Andhra Pradesh border and this boasts of the beauty of the two distinct states. The banks of the Machkund are also held sacred by pilgrims. Tribes like the Bonda, Paraja and Gadaba live by the banks of this river. 3. Chandrabhaga Beach

This beach in Konark, the home to the Sun Temple, is a beautiful coastal getaway. The Foundation of Environmental Education also maintains strict measures to conserve the condition of the beach. It is at a distance of 30 km from Puri and follows international standards of maintaining hygiene. The beach also houses the Chandrabhaga Coral Reef. 4. Chilika Lake

5. Tikarpada Wildlife Sanctuary

This sanctuary spreads over a stretch of 795.52 sq. km. The sanctuary gets its name from the adjacent Tikarpada village. A number of village roads with junctions called chekas will lead you to this sanctuary. For the benefit of tourists, a single road has been carved out of the forest so that a direct path to the sanctuary is established. The sanctuary is known for its crocodile nursery and ducks, tigers and eagles. There are food and water amenities available, for picnic and campers.

6. Barunei Hill

Barunei Hill is a picturesque, much loved picnic spot in the state of Odisha. Sitting atop gracefully at an altitude of 150 feet is the temple of goddess Barunei on this hill. The caves around the temple add to the mystical aura of the hills. It is widely believed by the people of Odisha that Lord Rama of the Ramayana had resided in the Barunei Hill during his exile. There is a crystal clear stream called the Swarna Ganga, on this hill.

8. Barabati Fort

This fort is an archaeological wonder and is located at a distance of 8km from the historically significant city of Cuttack. The top of the fort offers a towering, panoramic view of the entire city of Cuttack. The earthen walls of the fort echo the mysteries of a glorious past. It is believed that the fort was built in 987 CE during the reign of the Somvanshi dynasty, by Marakata Keshari. There are elephant stables that were used by the royal family once. This fort is also under the protection of the Archaeological Survey of India.

9. Koraput

10. Gupteswar Cave

This cave is considered to be sacred by Hindu pilgrims because of the Shiva Temple within this cave. The cave is formed of limestone and houses a colossal stalagmite Shiva Linga which is believed to be increasing in size with time. It is said that Lord Rama had discovered this cave all by himself and the cave had later also been rediscovered by Maharaja Veer Vikram Dev. During the holy month of Shravan, devotees carry bamboo palanquins called Kanwariya and walk to the shrine with bare feet. To reach the shrine, you must climb up 200 stairs. The cave is located 55 km from Jeypore. The cave is also located near the Sabari river, providing a picturesque view.
