In 1976, the hunting ground of Maharaja of Patiala, covering an area of 110 sq. kilometre, was transformed into a well-maintained wildlife sanctuary. This Chail sanctuary is the home to a wide range of flora and fauna, including sambar, goral, and cheers pheasants, leopard, porcupine, langur, Himalayan black bear and some endangered species as well.
