The Revi Karunakaran Memorial Museum, Alappuzha, was founded by Betty Karunakaran in memory of her husband, the late Revi Karunakaran, one of the famous entrepreneurs and businessmen in Kerala. Created in 2003, this privately owned museum features one of the largest collections of sculptures, Belgian glassworks, Tanjore paintings, and enormous crystals of Swarovski in jade, ivory, and porcelain. The repository was designed solely for personal use, but after Revi Karunakaran’s death in 2003, Betty opened it up for public visitations.

The coir and handloom industries of Kerala were much indebted to this industrialist and philanthropist known as Revi Karunakaran. His wife, Betty Karunakaran, after his death in 2003, conceived this museum in his memory and as a tribute to his avid collection of fine artworks and antiques over three generations. It hosts a wealth collection that reflects not only the rich culture of Kerala but also a fusion of international art and craftsmanship.
