1. Shankaracharya Temple

This is a historic temple from the 4th century. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is believed to be where Adi Shankaracharya achieved spiritual enlightenment. It is one of the famous temples in Srinagar. The shrine of the temple is circular and has a spiritual significance. You have to climb 250 steps to reach the temple and the tranquillity you feel at the top is divine.

2. Shree Kheer Bhawani Durga Temple

This popular Srinagar temple is a renowned Hindu shrine, dedicated to the deity Goddess Kheer Bhavani. The temple is built over a sacred spring and it is named after the famous Indian dessert “kheer”, which is also the primary offering to the Goddess here. The stone floor of the temple is vast and has attractive and huge chinar trees that give pleasant shade to the devotees. There is a holy pool some steps down the temple that changes colour.

3. Zeashta Devi Shrine

This temple is one of the most picturesque temples of Srinagar. It is an ancient and well-preserved temple and the whole shrine holds significant value for the devotees, especially the people of Kashmir. People come here to attain Riddhi, Siddhi, and Buddhi. You can also come to meditate in this spiritual sanctuary and attain peace and wisdom. The shrine also has sacred monuments, poojas, rituals, worship, festival celebrations, charitable offerings, and religious events. Tourists can also spot the wildlife around – birds, deer, lions, and leopards.

4. Pandrethan Temple

In the 8th century, this temple was built and dedicated to Lord Shiva. Its architecture and design are alluring and impressive. Two huge Shiva lingams, seven scriptures of Gandhara Style, and a rock carving of a monolithic statue’s feet were excavated. And they date back to the 2nd century. The Indian Army restored these sculptures and constructed a theme park to display them.

5. Sharika Devi Temple

This Hindu temple in Srinagar is dedicated to the Hindu Goddess – Jagadamba Sharika Bhagwati. It has an 18-armed idol which is revered by the Hindus as Srinagar’s presiding deity. It is considered one of the holy sites for Kashmiri Pandits. During the Sharika Jayanti festival, the devotees offer a special dish – Taher Charvan.

6. Durga Nag Temple

Durga Nag temple is located above a holy spring and around it. It is dedicated to goddess Durga, Shiva, and Siddha Peetha. There is a well in this temple and it is believed the wishes of the devotees come true if they wish upon this well. The positive vibes of this temple have immense power and work magic on the visitors. Its spiritual sanctity has been attracting saints and devotees who want to achieve the highest spiritual order.

7. Martand Sun Temple

This is an ancient Hindu temple built during the 8th century. It is dedicated to Lord Surya and has beautiful architecture and a lavish design. This Kashmiri-styles temple has a Martand in the middle and a courtyard surrounding it, enclosed by a colonnaded peristyle with 84 columns. In January 2024, a ‘Kalash’ from Ayodhya was installed at the Ram Temple in the premises of this temple. This temple has been recognized as a Site of national importance.

8. Mamleshwar Temple

This temple lies on the banks of river Lidder. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is believed that this is where Goddess Parvati instructed Lord Ganesha to be her doorkeeper and instructed him not to allow anyone to enter the premises. This is the place where Shiva removed Ganesha’s head and gave him an elephant head. Devotees feel elated after visiting this temple and enjoy the scenic beauty it is surrounded by.

9. Amarnath Cave

This cave is one of the most famous and best temples near Srinagar. This holy Hindu shrine is surrounded by glaciers and snowy mountains. It is covered with snow throughout the year and this cave is believed to be of Lord Shiva. The annual pilgrimage to this divine cave takes place in the Shravan month and it begins from Pahalgam and Baltal. The cave is accessible only for 2-3 months and is covered in snow for the rest of the year.

10. Rani Temple

This is one of the oldest temples in Srinagar and a historical temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, it built by Maharaja Hari Singh. It used to be the royal temple of the Dogra dynasty, and it is believed that Maharani Mohini Bai used to pray here every day.
