The goddess Chinnamman, the protector of Avadi and the environs, is honored in the historic Avadi Chinnamman Templefv.The temple is believed to have been built during the Pallava period (6th-9th centuries AD). According to legend, a young cowherd girl named Kadumbi discovered a Swayambhu (self-manifested) idol of Chinnamman while grazing her cows near a Kadamba tree.
