1. Thiruvalathur Randu Moorthy Temple

In the Palakkad district of Kerala, the Thiruvalathur Randu Moorthy Temple allures pilgrims and tourists alike with its striking structural beauty and architecture that is quite different from others in the region. The temple is dedicated to 2 different forms of mother goddess namely Mahishasura mardini and Annapoorneshwiri. One can see some fine stone sculptures as well as woodwork in the temple complex. According to a legend, the outer wall of the temple was built by an army of gods in one night and was left unfinished as dawn came.

2. Kalpathy Heritage Temple Complex

One of the most magnificent temples in the region, the Kalpathy Heritage Temple Complex is one of the oldest temples of the Palakkad region. The place still follows the ancient Brahmin culture that has been passed down for generations and still going strong. Palakkad is said to be the epicentre for the Tamil Brahmins of Kerala with several agraharams or Brahmin community streets located here. This UNESCO Heritage site is also famous for its Chariot festival and the raw original lifestyle of the residents.

3. Sri Emoor Bhagavathy Temple

Also called the Hemambika Temple, Sri Emoor Bhagavathy Temple is dedicated to Goddess Hemambika. According to a popular legend, the goddess once appeared in front of a devotee near a pond. However, when she witnessed a crowd gathering around, she disappeared immediately leaving behind the sight of only two raised hands. These raised hands froze into stone and are continued to be worshipped till date.

4. Sri Chinakkathoor Bhagavathy Temple

Near Ottapalam in Palakkad, the Chinakkathoor Bhagvathy temple is quite famous for its annual Chinakkathoor Pooram festival held in the Malayalam Kumbham month. There are two main shrines in the temple- Melakavu shrine which is older and Thazhekavu shrine which is a lower and younger shrine. In addition to these, there is an additional shrine dedicated to Lord Ganapati in his divine ‘Vidya Ganapti’ form.

5. Killikkurissi Mahadeva Temple

In the village of Lakkidi in Palakkad, this Lord Shiva temple is the 82nd temple among the 108 Shiva temples. Killikkurissi Mahadeva Temple has unique architecture that captures the attention of both the pilgrims and history buffs. There are beautifully carved wooden sculptures displayed all around the temple. According to legends, this temple was built by Sage Suka and is considered to be an important Lord Shiva pilgrimage site.

6. Sri Ramaswamy Temple

Dedicated to Lord Rama, The Sri Ramaswamy Temple in Karimpuzha is quite famous for its unique and traditional architectural beauty. According to legends, this is the place where Lord Rama renounced his life on the banks of River Sarayu (also known as River Karimpuzha) accompanied by Lord Hanuman. Considered to be one the rarest ‘Mahakshetrams’ in Kerala, this place is also known as Dakshina Ayodhya.

7. Panniyur Sri Varahamurthy Temple

One of the oldest and most famous temples of the Palakkad region, the Panniyur Sri Varahamurthy temple is believed to have been built by Parasurama around 4000 years ago. The place is often visited by both pilgrims as well as history buffs. The place is also renowned for having a close association with Perumthachan, the master carpenter. Dedicated to the third avatar of Lord Vishnu, it is believed that Perumthachan took refuge in this temple after the death of his son and finally abandoned his work tools here.

8. Sri Ayyappan Kavu Temple

Sri Ayyappan Kavu Temple is a thousand-year-old temple in Palakkad and also one of the most famous ones in the region. This place is famous for its colourful festive celebrations like Mandala Pooja and Theyyattu. The principal deities that are worshipped in this temple are Navagrahaghagal, Nagaraja, Sree Brahma and God Ganapathy.

9. Sri Ramapuram Vishnu Temple

Built around 6 centuries back for Lord Rama, Sri Ramapuram Vishnu Temple is among the oldest temples of Palakkad. The temple is easily accessible from the main Palakkad city through both public and private transport. The place is also famous for its unique architecture as well as deity.

10. Sri Thirupuraikkal Bhagavathy Temple

This Sri Thirupuraikkal Bhagavathy Temple is one of the most beautiful and famous temples in Palakkad. This is the only temple in Kerala celebrating the Goddess in her complete form. Dedicated to Goddess Karnaki, this place is also famous for its sprawling architecture that exemplifies the beautiful Kerala tradition and rituals. In addition, there are several smaller temples in the temple complex dedicated to Lord Ganesha, Lord Ayyappa, and Lord Nagaraj.
