2. Dig Into History At Kurnool Fort

For history buffs, one of the best things to do in Kurnool is to visit the Kurnool Fort, also known as the Konda Reddy Fort. Located centrally in Kurnool, it is one of the most iconic landmarks in the area built by Achyuta Devarayalu the king from the Vijayanagar Empire back in the 12th century. Historical reports suggest that the entrance to the fort was built by Gopala Raja, the grandson of Rama Raja of Talikota. The fort itself is named after Konda Reddy, the last ruler of Alampur. Some legends say that when Konda Reddy was under attack, he used the secret passages inside the fort to escape.

3. Seek Blessings At Yaganti Temple

Also known as the Sri Yaganti Uma Maheswara Temple, this is one of the most renowned and spiritually powerful temples in Kurnool. A short drive from the main city of Kurnool, it was established by King Harihara Bukka Raya from the Sangama Dynasty back in the 15th century. There are several stories behind the origins of the temple. However, the most believed is related to Sage Agastya, who wanted to construct a temple dedicated to Lord Venkateswara. When the toenail of the said idol was broken, the Sage performed penance for Lord Shiva, following whose appearance he built the temple that exists today.
