Built by the Portuguese in 1640, Castella de Aguada, often called Bandra Fort, is a fort located in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It overlooks the Arabian Sea at the southernmost tip of Bandra and was primarily a watchtower and a strategic defence point against sea invasions. At the same time, the fort was also a crucial water point for ships, as “aguada” means “water point” in Portuguese.
