This temple is one of the Panch Kedar pilgrimages, where there are 5 Shiva temples in the Garhwal region. The middle or belly part, which is also called the Nabhi of Lord Shiva, is worshipped here. This temple is believed to have been built by the Pandavas from the Mahabharata.
