The history and folklore related to the Mammiyoor Shiva Temple are directly entwined with that of the surrounding Guruvayur Temple. Legend tells that Lord Shiva and Parvathi relocated to Mahimayur when Guru and Vayu descended to consecrate the idol of Lord Krishna at Guruvayur.
