Sikkim has experienced an early onset of the snowfall season this year, turning the entire region into a frozen fairytale. Fresh snowfall reportedly blanketed North Sikkim on 29th September 2025. <\/p>\n

Notably, on October 5, Nathula Pass in Sikkim received its first snowfall of the season, creating picturesque winter scenes. In North Sikkim, areas such as Thangu (3,900 meters) and the Gurudongmar Lake region (5,425 meters) received the season’s first snowfall on September 29, much earlier than expected.<\/p>\n

How To Reach Sikkim<\/h2>\n

By Air:<\/strong> Reaching Sikkim by air is easier now with the introduction of Pakyong Airport, located about 30 km from Gangtok. As Sikkim\u2019s only airport, it offers limited, weather-dependent flights mainly from Kolkata and Delhi. Due to its high altitude, operations may be suspended during winter or poor weather conditions. <\/p>\n

Alternatively, you can fly to Bagdogra Airport in West Bengal, around 125 km from Gangtok, and continue by shared taxi, private cab or state-run bus.<\/p>\n

By Rail:<\/strong> Another way to reach Sikkim is by rail, although the journey isn\u2019t direct, as the state currently has no functional railway station. The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri Station in West Bengal, about 145 km, taking approximately 5 hours to reach by road. You can take a cab or shared jeep to reach your desired destination through scenic vistas.<\/p>\n

By Road:<\/strong> Reaching Sikkim by road is another option through breathtaking views and winding roads. The state is well-connected by road to neighbouring regions such as West Bengal with the primary entry point being Siliguri.
