This mosque is one of the several ancient architectural marvels located within the Purana Qila or Old Fort Complex. Sher Shah Suri built this private mosque to commemorate his victory over the Mughal Emperor, Humayun. The mosque follows the architectural style of a ‘five bay mosque’ commonly adopted by Afghan congregational mosques. Stone rubble, lime mortar, marble, quartzite and red sandstone have been used in the construction of the holy mosque. The small minarets in the mosque are called guldastas, due to their resemblance to flower bouquets.<\/p>\n
