Shangumugham Beach is located on the western Thiruvananthapuram side and is considered to be the Arattukadavu or the presiding deity of the city. The beach is the prime place for performing \u201cBali Tharpanam\u2019 pooja during special occasions by thousands of Hindus. The beach is also home to a giant statue of Sagara Kanya- Mermaid by Kanayi Kunhiraman which is around 35 metres long. One can also visit the \u201cJawahar Lal Nehru Park of Traffic Signs” here with children as it helps them understand the traffic rules while playing in the park. <\/p>\n

Installed in 1972, this place was an important sea port in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Earlier, there were no lighthouses in the area. The tower is marked by distinctive red and white stripes.<\/p>\n
