The Thiruvambady Temple is believed to have been built over 1,000 years ago, during the reign of the Chera dynasty. The temple was initially built as a small shrine some 15 kilometres away from its current location, dedicated to Lord Krishna, and was known as “Thiruvambady” or “Thiruvambadi”, meaning “Sacred Ambady” or “Sacred Place of Ambady”.
